Regional Location
Marin City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Marin County, California, United States. It is located 1.5 miles northwest of downtown Sausalito, and about 5 miles north of San Francisco from the Golden Gate Bridge.
Do people live or leave?
As the sea level rises, over 90% of the site will be inundated in the water within the next 100 years. A new wetland has been created to absorb the water as it rises and to re-bridge the eco-system from Golden Gate National Reserves all the way to Mill Valley.
History
Site Plan
The proposal seeks to develop the current waterfront land occupied by a dead mall and “sea of parking” into a new town-center residential community, reviving the lifeless neighborhood while easing the housing crisis of the SF Bay Area. A wetland will be introduced into the community through three phases, adapting to sea level rise while functioning as the stepping stone to re-bridge the North Bay eco-corridor. We intend to build a future-oriented form of settlement that allows people to not only adapt to but positively take advantage of sea-level rise. Most importantly, we want to demonstrate through the design that humans can co-inhabit with nature in an eco-friendly way--From Marin to Marine.
